The series is extremely popular in Japan (If Gundam is Japan's Star Wars, this series is Star Trek), but for various reasons, chief of which is probably it's immense size, has never been officially translated outside of Japan. Despite being an OAV, it runs about as long as some of the more popular shonen anime series: Four seasons for a total of 110 episodes released between 19.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes was an anime OAV based on a series of novels by Yoshiki Tanaka. Instead of a videogame, I thought I'd maybe turn some of you onto an anime series that doesn't quite get the love it deserves:
